BUILDING HOUSES, BUILDING HOPE

Habitat for Humanity Lansing is a volunteer-driven organization. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need. Though the vast majority have no construction experience or building skills, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction. By working side-by-side with the family who will live in the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of home ownership.

During September and October volunteers will be extremely limited as we work on a house with Michigan State students and staff sponsored by Whirlpool.
MSU students may go to this website http://www.servicelearning.msu.edu/ to find opportunities for this build. You will log in and receive information on how to sign up on the calendar.

Non Construction Opportunities:
a. Someone to file paperwork that can work independently.  This would be 1-2-3 hours every other week, maybe every week.
b. Someone to make drawings of houses using CAD-type program (architect, draftsman, etc.)
c. Someone - or group- with vast plant knowledge to draw diagrams for bushes/flowers for each house as we finish them or do the planting.
The volunteer online calendar lists dates and how many people are needed. If there are no listings, the crews are full.  After orientation and sending in a liability waiver, you may sign up there.   If you need community service, please call Ginny at 374-1313 ext 20.

First time volunteers (18 and older) need to go through an orientation before going on site.  There are two ways to do orientation:  1) do orientation online here at this site or 2) attend an orientation in person by making an appointment at our office - 374-1313 ext 20.  If you have a group that would like an orientation, please call 374-1313 ext 20.  We prefer a group of 8 - 10 people.  Thanks for your interest.

Habitat volunteers contribute more than muscle. Creativity, strategy, and technical skills are among the many invaluable traits volunteers bring to the organization. With a minimal staff, Habitat For Humanity Lansing depends upon volunteer committees for support with projects like Family Selection, Family Support, Public Relations, Construction Skills Training, and Volunteer Services. We also offer opportunities in our ReStore, a volunteer-run building materials recycling center.

We invite volunteers to help us build, assist in the office, work in the ReStore, serve on committees, and help with special projects that benefit the organization. Time commitments vary; some volunteers dedicate every day of the week to Habitat For Humanity Lansing and others spend just a few hours each month working on projects or in the ReStore. As a volunteer for Habitat For Humanity Lansing, you can choose to volunteer as little or as often as you would like. All of these positions are a tremendous help that directly or indirectly result in the construction of simple, decent homes.

Unaccompanied minors (16-17) are not allowed on the job site.  Call the office for further information.  (517-374-1313  ext 20)
